Juzu' 14

The fourteenth juz’ of the Qur’an contains two complete chapters of the Quran: Surah Al-Hijr and Surah An-Nahl (15:1-16:128).

Both Surah Al-Hijr and Surah An-Nahl were revealed towards the end of the Prophet's time in Makkah, prior to the Hijrah. Although the Prophet Muhammad had been preaching the message of Islam for several years, the people of Makkah were not accepting. Indeed, they had become more and more antagonistic and oppressive.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

الر ۚ تِلْكَ آيَاتُ الْكِتَابِ وَقُرْآنٍ مُبِينٍ

Transliteration

Alif-lam-ra tilka ayatualkitabi waqur-anin mubeen

Yusuf Ali

A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear.

15:1

رُبَمَا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَوْ كَانُوا مُسْلِمِينَ

Transliteration

Rubama yawaddu allatheenakafaroo law kanoo muslimeen

Yusuf Ali

Again and again will those who disbelieve, wish that they had bowed (to Allah's will) in Islam.

15:2

ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا وَيُلْهِهِمُ الْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Tharhum ya/kuloo wayatamattaAAoowayulhihimu al-amalu fasawfa yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them).

15:3

وَمَا أَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَعْلُومٌ

Transliteration

Wama ahlakna min qaryatin illawalaha kitabun maAAloom

Yusuf Ali

Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand.

15:4

مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ

Transliteration

Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalahawama yasta/khiroon

Yusuf Ali

Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it.

15:5

وَقَالُوا يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِي نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ

Transliteration

Waqaloo ya ayyuha allatheenuzzila AAalayhi aththikru innaka lamajnoon

Yusuf Ali

They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)!

15:6

لَوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِالْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

Transliteration

Law ma ta/teena bilmala-ikatiin kunta mina assadiqeen

Yusuf Ali

"Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?"

15:7

مَا نُنَزِّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوا إِذًا مُنْظَرِينَ

Transliteration

Ma nunazzilu almala-ikata illabilhaqqi wama kanoo ithan munthareen

Yusuf Ali

We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have!

15:8

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

Transliteration

Inna nahnu nazzalna aththikrawa-inna lahu lahafithoon

Yusuf Ali

We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption).

15:9

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ فِي شِيَعِ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Walaqad arsalna min qablika feeshiyaAAi al-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old:

15:10

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ رَسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ

Transliteration

Wama ya/teehim min rasoolin illakanoo bihi yastahzi-oon

Yusuf Ali

But never came a messenger to them but they mocked him.

15:11

كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُ فِي قُلُوبِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

Transliteration

Kathalika naslukuhu fee quloobialmujrimeen

Yusuf Ali

Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners -

15:12

لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

La yu/minoona bihi waqad khalatsunnatu al-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away.

15:13

وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ بَابًا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَظَلُّوا فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ

Transliteration

Walaw fatahna AAalayhim babanmina assama-i fathalloo feehiyaAArujoon

Yusuf Ali

Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein,

15:14

لَقَالُوا إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَارُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَسْحُورُونَ

Transliteration

Laqaloo innama sukkirat absarunabal nahnu qawmun mashooroon

Yusuf Ali

They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery."

15:15

وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِي السَّمَاءِ بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّاهَا لِلنَّاظِرِينَ

Transliteration

Walaqad jaAAalna fee assama-iburoojan wazayyannaha linnathireen

Yusuf Ali

It is We Who have set out the zodiacal signs in the heavens, and made them fair-seeming to (all) beholders;

15:16

وَحَفِظْنَاهَا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ رَجِيمٍ

Transliteration

Wahafithnahamin kulli shaytanin rajeem

Yusuf Ali

And (moreover) We have guarded them from every cursed devil:

15:17

إِلَّا مَنِ اسْتَرَقَ السَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Illa mani istaraqa assamAAafaatbaAAahu shihabun mubeen

Yusuf Ali

But any that gains a hearing by stealth, is pursued by a flaming fire, bright (to see).

15:18

وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَوْزُونٍ

Transliteration

Wal-arda madadnahawaalqayna feeha rawasiya waanbatnafeeha min kulli shay-in mawzoon

Yusuf Ali

And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance.

15:19

وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَايِشَ وَمَنْ لَسْتُمْ لَهُ بِرَازِقِينَ

Transliteration

WajaAAalna lakum feeha maAAayishawaman lastum lahu biraziqeen

Yusuf Ali

And We have provided therein means of subsistence,- for you and for those for whose sustenance ye are not responsible.

15:20

وَإِنْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا عِنْدَنَا خَزَائِنُهُ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ

Transliteration

Wa-in min shay-in illa AAindanakhaza-inuhu wama nunazziluhu illa biqadarinmaAAloom

Yusuf Ali

And there is not a thing but its (sources and) treasures (inexhaustible) are with Us; but We only send down thereof in due and ascertainable measures.

15:21

وَأَرْسَلْنَا الرِّيَاحَ لَوَاقِحَ فَأَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَسْقَيْنَاكُمُوهُ وَمَا أَنْتُمْ لَهُ بِخَازِنِينَ

Transliteration

Waarsalna arriyaha lawaqihafaanzalna mina assama-i maanfaasqaynakumoohu wama antum lahu bikhazineen

Yusuf Ali

And We send the fecundating winds, then cause the rain to descend from the sky, therewith providing you with water (in abundance), though ye are not the guardians of its stores.

15:22

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْيِي وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ الْوَارِثُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna lanahnu nuhyeewanumeetu wanahnu alwarithoon

Yusuf Ali

And verily, it is We Who give life, and Who give death: it is We Who remain inheritors (after all else passes away).

15:23

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنْكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا الْمُسْتَأْخِرِينَ

Transliteration

Walaqad AAalimna almustaqdimeenaminkum walaqad AAalimna almusta/khireen

Yusuf Ali

To Us are known those of you who hasten forward, and those who lag behind.

15:24

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Wa-inna rabbaka huwa yahshuruhuminnahu hakeemun AAaleem

Yusuf Ali

Assuredly it is thy Lord Who will gather them together: for He is perfect in Wisdom and Knowledge.

15:25

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ صَلْصَالٍ مِنْ حَمَإٍ مَسْنُونٍ

Transliteration

Walaqad khalaqna al-insana minsalsalin min hama-in masnoon

Yusuf Ali

We created man from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape;

15:26

وَالْجَانَّ خَلَقْنَاهُ مِنْ قَبْلُ مِنْ نَارِ السَّمُومِ

Transliteration

Waljanna khalaqnahumin qablu min nari assamoom

Yusuf Ali

And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind.

15:27

وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِقٌ بَشَرًا مِنْ صَلْصَالٍ مِنْ حَمَإٍ مَسْنُونٍ

Transliteration

Wa-ith qala rabbuka lilmala-ikatiinnee khaliqun basharan min salsalin min hama-inmasnoon

Yusuf Ali

Behold! thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man, from sounding clay from mud moulded into shape;

15:28

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِي فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ

Transliteration

Fa-itha sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu feehimin roohee faqaAAoo lahu sajideen

Yusuf Ali

"When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."

15:29

فَسَجَدَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ

Transliteration

Fasajada almala-ikatu kulluhumajmaAAoon

Yusuf Ali

So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together:

15:30

إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ أَنْ يَكُونَ مَعَ السَّاجِدِينَ

Transliteration

Illa ibleesa aba an yakoonamaAAa assajideen

Yusuf Ali

Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves.

15:31

قَالَ يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ السَّاجِدِينَ

Transliteration

Qala ya ibleesu ma lakaalla takoona maAAa assajideen

Yusuf Ali

(Allah) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?"

15:32

قَالَ لَمْ أَكُنْ لِأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُ مِنْ صَلْصَالٍ مِنْ حَمَإٍ مَسْنُونٍ

Transliteration

Qala lam akun li-asjuda libasharinkhalaqtahu min salsalin min hama-in masnoon

Yusuf Ali

(Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape."

15:33

قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ

Transliteration

Qala fakhruj minhafa-innaka rajeem

Yusuf Ali

(Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed.

15:34

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ اللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ

Transliteration

Wa-inna AAalayka allaAAnata ila yawmiaddeen

Yusuf Ali

"And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment."

15:35

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنْظِرْنِي إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

Transliteration

Qala rabbi faanthirneeila yawmi yubAAathoon

Yusuf Ali

(Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised."

15:36

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنْظَرِينَ

Transliteration

Qala fa-innaka mina almunthareen

Yusuf Ali

(Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee

15:37

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ

Transliteration

Ila yawmi alwaqti almaAAloom

Yusuf Ali

"Till the Day of the Time appointed."

15:38

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

Transliteration

Qala rabbi bima aghwaytaneelaozayyinanna lahum fee al-ardi walaoghwiyannahumajmaAAeen

Yusuf Ali

(Iblis) said: "O my Lord! because Thou hast put me in the wrong, I will make (wrong) fair-seeming to them on the earth, and I will put them all in the wrong,-

15:39

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ

Transliteration

Illa AAibadaka minhumualmukhlaseen

Yusuf Ali

"Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)."

15:40

قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَاطٌ عَلَيَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ

Transliteration

Qala hatha siratunAAalayya mustaqeem

Yusuf Ali

(Allah) said: "This (way of My sincere servants) is indeed a way that leads straight to Me.

15:41

إِنَّ عِبَادِي لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانٌ إِلَّا مَنِ اتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ الْغَاوِينَ

Transliteration

Inna AAibadee laysa laka AAalayhimsultanun illa mani ittabaAAaka mina alghaween

Yusuf Ali

"For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee."

15:42

وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna jahannama lamawAAiduhum ajmaAAeen

Yusuf Ali

And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all!

15:43

لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَابٍ لِكُلِّ بَابٍ مِنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَقْسُومٌ

Transliteration

Laha sabAAatu abwabin likullibabin minhum juz-on maqsoom

Yusuf Ali

To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned.

15:44

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

Transliteration

Inna almuttaqeena fee jannatinwaAAuyoon

Yusuf Ali

The righteous (will be) amid gardens and fountains (of clear-flowing water).

15:45

ادْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَامٍ آمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Odkhulooha bisalamin amineen

Yusuf Ali

(Their greeting will be): "Enter ye here in peace and security."

15:46

وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِي صُدُورِهِمْ مِنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَانًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُتَقَابِلِينَ

Transliteration

WanazaAAna ma fee sudoorihimmin ghillin ikhwanan AAala sururin mutaqabileen

Yusuf Ali

And We shall remove from their hearts any lurking sense of injury: (they will be) brothers (joyfully) facing each other on thrones (of dignity).

15:47

لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُمْ مِنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ

Transliteration

La yamassuhum feeha nasabunwama hum minha bimukhrajeen

Yusuf Ali

There no sense of fatigue shall touch them, nor shall they (ever) be asked to leave.

15:48

۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِي أَنِّي أَنَا الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

Transliteration

Nabbi/ AAibadee annee anaalghafooru arraheem

Yusuf Ali

Tell My servants that I am indeed the Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful;

15:49

وَأَنَّ عَذَابِي هُوَ الْعَذَابُ الْأَلِيمُ

Transliteration

Waanna AAathabee huwa alAAathabual-aleem

Yusuf Ali

And that My Penalty will be indeed the most grievous Penalty.

15:50

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَنْ ضَيْفِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

Transliteration

Wanabbi/hum AAan dayfi ibraheem

Yusuf Ali

Tell them about the guests of Abraham.

15:51

إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا سَلَامًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنْكُمْ وَجِلُونَ

Transliteration

Ith dakhaloo AAalayhi faqaloosalaman qala inna minkum wajiloon

Yusuf Ali

When they entered his presence and said, "Peace!" He said, "We feel afraid of you!"

15:52

قَالُوا لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَامٍ عَلِيمٍ

Transliteration

Qaloo la tawjal innanubashshiruka bighulamin AAaleem

Yusuf Ali

They said: "Fear not! We give thee glad tidings of a son endowed with wisdom."

15:53

قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِي عَلَىٰ أَنْ مَسَّنِيَ الْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ

Transliteration

Qala abashshartumoonee AAalaan massaniya alkibaru fabima tubashshiroon

Yusuf Ali

He said: "Do ye give me glad tidings that old age has seized me? Of what, then, is your good news?"

15:54

قَالُوا بَشَّرْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُنْ مِنَ الْقَانِطِينَ

Transliteration

Qaloo bashsharnaka bilhaqqifala takun mina alqaniteen

Yusuf Ali

They said: "We give thee glad tidings in truth: be not then in despair!"

15:55

قَالَ وَمَنْ يَقْنَطُ مِنْ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّهِ إِلَّا الضَّالُّونَ

Transliteration

Qala waman yaqnatu min rahmatirabbihi illa addalloon

Yusuf Ali

He said: "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord, but such as go astray?"

15:56

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا الْمُرْسَلُونَ

Transliteration

Qala fama khatbukumayyuha almursaloon

Yusuf Ali

Abraham said: "What then is the business on which ye (have come), O ye messengers (of Allah)?"

15:57

قَالُوا إِنَّا أُرْسِلْنَا إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُجْرِمِينَ

Transliteration

Qaloo inna orsilna ilaqawmin mujrimeen

Yusuf Ali

They said: "We have been sent to a people (deep) in sin,

15:58

إِلَّا آلَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

Transliteration

Illa ala lootin innalamunajjoohum ajmaAAeen

Yusuf Ali

"Excepting the adherents of Lut: them we are certainly (charged) to save (from harm),- All -

15:59

إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ قَدَّرْنَا ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ

Transliteration

Illa imraatahu qaddarna innahalamina alghabireen

Yusuf Ali

"Except his wife, who, We have ascertained, will be among those who will lag behind."

15:60

فَلَمَّا جَاءَ آلَ لُوطٍ الْمُرْسَلُونَ

Transliteration

Falamma jaa ala lootinalmursaloon

Yusuf Ali

At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut,

15:61

قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُنْكَرُونَ

Transliteration

Qala innakum qawmun munkaroon

Yusuf Ali

He said: "Ye appear to be uncommon folk."

15:62

قَالُوا بَلْ جِئْنَاكَ بِمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ

Transliteration

Qaloo bal ji/naka bimakanoo feehi yamtaroon

Yusuf Ali

They said: "Yea, we have come to thee to accomplish that of which they doubt.

15:63

وَأَتَيْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَادِقُونَ

Transliteration

Waataynaka bilhaqqiwa-inna lasadiqoon

Yusuf Ali

"We have brought to thee that which is inevitably due, and assuredly we tell the truth.

15:64

فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ وَاتَّبِعْ أَدْبَارَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَامْضُوا حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ

Transliteration

Faasri bi-ahlika biqitAAin minaallayli wattabiAA adbarahum wala yaltafitminkum ahadun wamdoo haythutu/maroon

Yusuf Ali

"Then travel by night with thy household, when a portion of the night (yet remains), and do thou bring up the rear: let no one amongst you look back, but pass on whither ye are ordered."

15:65

وَقَضَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ الْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰؤُلَاءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُصْبِحِينَ

Transliteration

Waqadayna ilayhi thalikaal-amra anna dabira haola-i maqtooAAunmusbiheen

Yusuf Ali

And We made known this decree to him, that the last remnants of those (sinners) should be cut off by the morning.

15:66

وَجَاءَ أَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ

Transliteration

Wajaa ahlu almadeenati yastabshiroon

Yusuf Ali

The inhabitants of the city came in (mad) joy (at news of the young men).

15:67

قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ ضَيْفِي فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ

Transliteration

Qala inna haola-i dayfeefala tafdahoon

Yusuf Ali

Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not:

15:68

وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ

Transliteration

Wattaqoo Allaha walatukhzoon

Yusuf Ali

"But fear Allah, and shame me not."

15:69

قَالُوا أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration

Qaloo awa lam nanhaka AAani alAAalameen

Yusuf Ali

They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?"

15:70

قَالَ هَٰؤُلَاءِ بَنَاتِي إِنْ كُنْتُمْ فَاعِلِينَ

Transliteration

Qala haola-i banateein kuntum faAAileen

Yusuf Ali

He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)."

15:71

لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِي سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ

Transliteration

LaAAamruka innahum lafee sakratihimyaAAmahoona

Yusuf Ali

Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro.

15:72

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ

Transliteration

Faakhathat-humu assayhatumushriqeen

Yusuf Ali

But the (mighty) Blast overtook them before morning,

15:73

فَجَعَلْنَا عَالِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِنْ سِجِّيلٍ

Transliteration

FajaAAalna AAaliyaha safilahawaamtarna AAalayhim hijaratan minsijjeel

Yusuf Ali

And We turned (the cities) upside down, and rained down on them brimstones hard as baked clay.

15:74

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ

Transliteration

Inna fee thalika laayatinlilmutawassimeen

Yusuf Ali

Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand.

15:75

وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُقِيمٍ

Transliteration

Wa-innaha labisabeelin muqeem

Yusuf Ali

And the (cities were) right on the high-road.

15:76

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Inna fee thalika laayatanlilmu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

Behold! in this is a sign for those who believed.

15:77

وَإِنْ كَانَ أَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ لَظَالِمِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-in kana as-habual-aykati lathalimeen

Yusuf Ali

And the Companions of the Wood were also wrong-doers;

15:78

فَانْتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُبِينٍ

Transliteration

Fantaqamna minhum wa-innahumalabi-imamin mubeen

Yusuf Ali

So We exacted retribution from them. They were both on an open highway, plain to see.

15:79

وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَابُ الْحِجْرِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

Transliteration

Walaqad kaththaba as-habualhijri almursaleen

Yusuf Ali

The Companions of the Rocky Tract also rejected the messengers:

15:80

وَآتَيْنَاهُمْ آيَاتِنَا فَكَانُوا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ

Transliteration

Waataynahum ayatinafakanoo AAanha muAArideen

Yusuf Ali

We sent them Our Signs, but they persisted in turning away from them.

15:81

وَكَانُوا يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا آمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Wakanoo yanhitoona mina aljibalibuyootan amineen

Yusuf Ali

Out of the mountains did they hew (their) edifices, (feeling themselves) secure.

15:82

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ

Transliteration

Faakhathat-humu assayhatumusbiheen

Yusuf Ali

But the (mighty) Blast seized them of a morning,

15:83

فَمَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ

Transliteration

Fama aghna AAanhum ma kanooyaksiboon

Yusuf Ali

And of no avail to them was all that they did (with such art and care)!

15:84

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِلَّا بِالْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ السَّاعَةَ لَآتِيَةٌ ۖ فَاصْفَحِ الصَّفْحَ الْجَمِيلَ

Transliteration

Wama khalaqna assamawatiwal-arda wama baynahuma illabilhaqqi wa-inna assaAAata laatiyatunfasfahi assafhaaljameel

Yusuf Ali

We created not the heavens, the earth, and all between them, but for just ends. And the Hour is surely coming (when this will be manifest). So overlook (any human faults) with gracious forgiveness.

15:85

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ الْخَلَّاقُ الْعَلِيمُ

Transliteration

Inna rabbaka huwa alkhallaqualAAaleem

Yusuf Ali

For verily it is thy Lord who is the Master-Creator, knowing all things.

15:86

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَاكَ سَبْعًا مِنَ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنَ الْعَظِيمَ

Transliteration

Walaqad ataynaka sabAAan minaalmathanee walqur-ana alAAatheem

Yusuf Ali

And We have bestowed upon thee the Seven Oft-repeated (verses) and the Grand Qur'an.

15:87

لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِ أَزْوَاجًا مِنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَاخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

La tamuddanna AAaynayka ila mamattaAAna bihi azwajan minhum wala tahzanAAalayhim wakhfid janahaka lilmu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

Strain not thine eyes. (Wistfully) at what We have bestowed on certain classes of them, nor grieve over them: but lower thy wing (in gentleness) to the believers.

15:88

وَقُلْ إِنِّي أَنَا النَّذِيرُ الْمُبِينُ

Transliteration

Waqul innee ana annatheerualmubeen

Yusuf Ali

And say: "I am indeed he that warneth openly and without ambiguity,"-

15:89

كَمَا أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَى الْمُقْتَسِمِينَ

Transliteration

Kama anzalna AAalaalmuqtasimeen

Yusuf Ali

(Of just such wrath) as We sent down on those who divided (Scripture into arbitrary parts),-

15:90

الَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا الْقُرْآنَ عِضِينَ

Transliteration

Allatheena jaAAaloo alqur-anaAAideen

Yusuf Ali

(So also on such) as have made Qur'an into shreds (as they please).

15:91

فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْأَلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

Transliteration

Fawarabbika lanas-alannahum ajmaAAeen

Yusuf Ali

Therefore, by the Lord, We will, of a surety, call them to account,

15:92

عَمَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

AAamma kanoo yaAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

For all their deeds.

15:93

فَاصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

Transliteration

FasdaAA bima tu/maruwaaAArid AAani almushrikeen

Yusuf Ali

Therefore expound openly what thou art commanded, and turn away from those who join false gods with Allah.

15:94

إِنَّا كَفَيْنَاكَ الْمُسْتَهْزِئِينَ

Transliteration

Inna kafaynaka almustahzi-een

Yusuf Ali

For sufficient are We unto thee against those who scoff,-

15:95

الَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Allatheena yajAAaloona maAAa Allahiilahan akhara fasawfa yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Those who adopt, with Allah, another god: but soon will they come to know.

15:96

وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ

Transliteration

Walaqad naAAlamu annaka yadeequ sadrukabima yaqooloon

Yusuf Ali

We do indeed know how thy heart is distressed at what they say.

15:97

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُنْ مِنَ السَّاجِدِينَ

Transliteration

Fasabbih bihamdi rabbika wakunmina assajideen

Yusuf Ali

But celebrate the praises of thy Lord, and be of those who prostrate themselves in adoration.

15:98

وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ

Transliteration

WaAAbud rabbaka hattaya/tiyaka alyaqeen

Yusuf Ali

And serve thy Lord until there come unto thee the Hour that is Certain.

15:99

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

أَتَىٰ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُوهُ ۚ سُبْحَانَهُ

وَتَعَالَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

Transliteration

Ata amru Allahi falatastaAAjiloohu subhanahu wataAAala AAammayushrikoon

Yusuf Ali

(Inevitable) cometh (to pass) the Command of Allah: seek ye not then to hasten it: Glory to Him, and far is He above having the partners they ascribe unto Him!

16:1

يُنَزِّلُ الْمَلَائِكَةَ بِالرُّوحِ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ عَلَىٰ مَنْ يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ أَنْ أَنْذِرُوا أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا فَاتَّقُونِ

Transliteration

Yunazzilu almala-ikata birroohimin amrihi AAala man yashao min AAibadihi ananthiroo annahu la ilaha illa anafattaqoon

Yusuf Ali

He doth send down His angels with inspiration of His Command, to such of His servants as He pleaseth, (saying): "Warn (Man) that there is no god but I: so do your duty unto Me."

16:2

خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بِالْحَقِّ ۚ تَعَالَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

Transliteration

Khalaqa assamawati wal-ardabilhaqqi taAAala AAammayushrikoon

Yusuf Ali

He has created the heavens and the earth for just ends: Far is He above having the partners they ascribe to Him!

16:3

خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Khalaqa al-insana min nutfatinfa-itha huwa khaseemun mubeen

Yusuf Ali

He has created man from a sperm-drop; and behold this same (man) becomes an open disputer!

16:4

وَالْأَنْعَامَ خَلَقَهَا ۗ لَكُمْ فِيهَا دِفْءٌ وَمَنَافِعُ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ

Transliteration

Wal-anAAama khalaqahalakum feeha dif-on wamanafiAAu waminhata-kuloon

Yusuf Ali

And cattle He has created for you (men): from them ye derive warmth, and numerous benefits, and of their (meat) ye eat.

16:5

وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا جَمَالٌ حِينَ تُرِيحُونَ وَحِينَ تَسْرَحُونَ

Transliteration

Walakum feeha jamalun heenatureehoona waheena tasrahoon

Yusuf Ali

And ye have a sense of pride and beauty in them as ye drive them home in the evening, and as ye lead them forth to pasture in the morning.

16:6

وَتَحْمِلُ أَثْقَالَكُمْ إِلَىٰ بَلَدٍ لَمْ تَكُونُوا بَالِغِيهِ إِلَّا بِشِقِّ الْأَنْفُسِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَرَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Watahmilu athqalakum ilabaladin lam takoonoo baligheehi illa bishiqqial-anfusi inna rabbakum laraoofun raheem

Yusuf Ali

And they carry your heavyloads to lands that ye could not (otherwise) reach except with souls distressed: for your Lord is indeed Most Kind, Most Merciful,

16:7

وَالْخَيْلَ وَالْبِغَالَ وَالْحَمِيرَ لِتَرْكَبُوهَا وَزِينَةً ۚ وَيَخْلُقُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Walkhayla walbighalawalhameera litarkabooha wazeenatanwayakhluqu ma la taAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

And (He has created) horses, mules, and donkeys, for you to ride and use for show; and He has created (other) things of which ye have no knowledge.

16:8

وَعَلَى اللَّهِ قَصْدُ السَّبِيلِ وَمِنْهَا جَائِرٌ ۚ وَلَوْ شَاءَ لَهَدَاكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

Transliteration

WaAAala Allahi qasdu assabeeliwaminha ja-irun walaw shaa lahadakumajmaAAeen

Yusuf Ali

And unto Allah leads straight the Way, but there are ways that turn aside: if Allah had willed, He could have guided all of you.

16:9

هُوَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً ۖ لَكُمْ مِنْهُ شَرَابٌ وَمِنْهُ شَجَرٌ فِيهِ تُسِيمُونَ

Transliteration

Huwa allathee anzala mina assama-imaan lakum minhu sharabun waminhu shajarun feehituseemoon

Yusuf Ali

It is He who sends down rain from the sky: from it ye drink, and out of it (grows) the vegetation on which ye feed your cattle.

16:10

يُنْبِتُ لَكُمْ بِهِ الزَّرْعَ وَالزَّيْتُونَ وَالنَّخِيلَ وَالْأَعْنَابَ وَمِنْ كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Yunbitu lakum bihi azzarAAa wazzaytoonawannakheela wal-aAAnaba wamin kulli aththamaratiinna fee thalika laayatan liqawmin yatafakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

With it He produces for you corn, olives, date-palms, grapes and every kind of fruit: verily in this is a sign for those who give thought.

16:11

وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ ۖ وَالنُّجُومُ مُسَخَّرَاتٌ بِأَمْرِهِ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ

Transliteration

Wasakhkhara lakumu allayla wannaharawashshamsa walqamara wannujoomumusakhkharatun bi-amrihi inna fee thalika laayatinliqawmin yaAAqiloon

Yusuf Ali

He has made subject to you the Night and the Day; the sun and the moon; and the stars are in subjection by His Command: verily in this are Signs for men who are wise.

16:12

وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ مُخْتَلِفًا أَلْوَانُهُ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِقَوْمٍ يَذَّكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Wama tharaa lakum fee al-ardimukhtalifan alwanuhu inna fee thalika laayatanliqawmin yaththakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

And the things on this earth which He has multiplied in varying colours (and qualities): verily in this is a sign for men who celebrate the praises of Allah (in gratitude).

16:13

وَهُوَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ الْبَحْرَ لِتَأْكُلُوا مِنْهُ لَحْمًا طَرِيًّا وَتَسْتَخْرِجُوا مِنْهُ حِلْيَةً تَلْبَسُونَهَا وَتَرَى الْفُلْكَ مَوَاخِرَ فِيهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا مِنْ فَضْلِهِ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

Transliteration

Wahuwa allathee sakhkhara albahralita/kuloo minhu lahman tariyyan watastakhrijoominhu hilyatan talbasoonaha watara alfulkamawakhira feehi walitabtaghoo min fadlihiwalaAAallakum tashkuroon

Yusuf Ali

It is He Who has made the sea subject, that ye may eat thereof flesh that is fresh and tender, and that ye may extract therefrom ornaments to wear; and thou seest the ships therein that plough the waves, that ye may seek (thus) of the bounty of Allah and that ye may be grateful.

16:14

وَأَلْقَىٰ فِي الْأَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ أَنْ تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَأَنْهَارًا وَسُبُلًا لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ

Transliteration

Waalqa fee al-ardi rawasiyaan tameeda bikum waanharan wasubulan laAAallakum tahtadoon

Yusuf Ali

And He has set up on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you; and rivers and roads; that ye may guide yourselves;

16:15

وَعَلَامَاتٍ ۚ وَبِالنَّجْمِ هُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ

Transliteration

WaAAalamatin wabinnajmihum yahtadoon

Yusuf Ali

And marks and sign-posts; and by the stars (men) guide themselves.

16:16

أَفَمَنْ يَخْلُقُ كَمَنْ لَا يَخْلُقُ ۗ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Afaman yakhluqu kaman la yakhluquafala tathakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

Is then He Who creates like one that creates not? Will ye not receive admonition?

16:17

وَإِنْ تَعُدُّوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَا ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Wa-in taAAuddoo niAAmata Allahi latuhsooha inna Allaha laghafoorun raheem

Yusuf Ali

If ye would count up the favours of Allah, never would ye be able to number them: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

16:18

وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّونَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُونَ

Transliteration

Wallahu yaAAlamu matusirroona wama tuAAlinoon

Yusuf Ali

And Allah doth know what ye conceal, and what ye reveal.

16:19

وَالَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ لَا يَخْلُقُونَ شَيْئًا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena yadAAoona mindooni Allahi la yakhluqoona shay-an wahumyukhlaqoon

Yusuf Ali

Those whom they invoke besides Allah create nothing and are themselves created.

16:20

أَمْوَاتٌ غَيْرُ أَحْيَاءٍ ۖ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ أَيَّانَ يُبْعَثُونَ

Transliteration

Amwatun ghayru ahya-inwama yashAAuroona ayyana yubAAathoon

Yusuf Ali

(They are things) dead, lifeless: nor do they know when they will be raised up.

16:21

إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ ۚ فَالَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ مُنْكِرَةٌ وَهُمْ مُسْتَكْبِرُونَ

Transliteration

Ilahukum ilahun wahidunfallatheena la yu/minoona bil-akhiratiquloobuhum munkiratun wahum mustakbiroon

Yusuf Ali

Your Allah is one Allah: as to those who believe not in the Hereafter, their hearts refuse to know, and they are arrogant.

16:22

لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ ۚ إِنَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ

Transliteration

La jarama anna Allaha yaAAlamuma yusirroona wama yuAAlinoona innahu la yuhibbualmustakbireen

Yusuf Ali

Undoubtedly Allah doth know what they conceal, and what they reveal: verily He loveth not the arrogant.

16:23

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ مَاذَا أَنْزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۙ قَالُوا أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-itha qeela lahum mathaanzala rabbukum qaloo asateeru al-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

When it is said to them, "What is it that your Lord has revealed?" they say, "Tales of the ancients!"

16:24

لِيَحْمِلُوا أَوْزَارَهُمْ كَامِلَةً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۙ وَمِنْ أَوْزَارِ الَّذِينَ يُضِلُّونَهُمْ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ۗ أَلَا سَاءَ مَا يَزِرُونَ

Transliteration

Liyahmiloo awzarahum kamilatanyawma alqiyamati wamin awzari allatheena yudilloonahumbighayri AAilmin ala saa ma yaziroon

Yusuf Ali

Let them bear, on the Day of Judgment, their own burdens in full, and also (something) of the burdens of those without knowledge, whom they misled. Alas, how grievous the burdens they will bear!

16:25

قَدْ مَكَرَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَأَتَى اللَّهُ بُنْيَانَهُمْ مِنَ الْقَوَاعِدِ فَخَرَّ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّقْفُ مِنْ فَوْقِهِمْ وَأَتَاهُمُ الْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

Transliteration

Qad makara allatheena min qablihimfaata Allahu bunyanahum mina alqawaAAidifakharra AAalayhimu assaqfu min fawqihim waatahumualAAathabu min haythu la yashAAuroon

Yusuf Ali

Those before them did also plot (against Allah's Way): but Allah took their structures from their foundations, and the roof fell down on them from above; and the Wrath seized them from directions they did not perceive.

16:26

ثُمَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يُخْزِيهِمْ وَيَقُولُ أَيْنَ شُرَكَائِيَ الَّذِينَ كُنْتُمْ تُشَاقُّونَ فِيهِمْ ۚ قَالَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ إِنَّ الْخِزْيَ الْيَوْمَ وَالسُّوءَ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ

Transliteration

Thumma yawma alqiyamati yukhzeehimwayaqoolu ayna shuraka-iya allatheena kuntum tushaqqoonafeehim qala allatheena ootoo alAAilma inna alkhizyaalyawma wassoo-a AAala alkafireen

Yusuf Ali

Then, on the Day of Judgment, He will cover them with shame, and say: "Where are My 'partners' concerning whom ye used to dispute (with the godly)?" Those endued with knowledge will say: "This Day, indeed, are the Unbelievers covered with shame and misery,-

16:27

الَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّاهُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ ظَالِمِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ ۖ فَأَلْقَوُا السَّلَمَ مَا كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ مِنْ سُوءٍ ۚ بَلَىٰ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Allatheena tatawaffahumu almala-ikatuthalimee anfusihim faalqawoo assalamama kunna naAAmalu min soo-in bala inna AllahaAAaleemun bima kuntum taAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

"(Namely) those whose lives the angels take in a state of wrong-doing to their own souls." Then would they offer submission (with the pretence), "We did no evil (knowingly)." (The angels will reply), "Nay, but verily Allah knoweth all that ye did;

16:28

فَادْخُلُوا أَبْوَابَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ۖ فَلَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى الْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ

Transliteration

Fadkhuloo abwaba jahannama khalideenafeeha falabi/sa mathwa almutakabbireen

Yusuf Ali

"So enter the gates of Hell, to dwell therein. Thus evil indeed is the abode of the arrogant."

16:29

۞ وَقِيلَ لِلَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا مَاذَا أَنْزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۚ قَالُوا خَيْرًا ۗ لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا فِي هَٰذِهِ الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةٌ ۚ وَلَدَارُ الْآخِرَةِ خَيْرٌ ۚ وَلَنِعْمَ دَارُ الْمُتَّقِينَ

Transliteration

Waqeela lillatheena ittaqaw mathaanzala rabbukum qaloo khayran lillatheena ahsanoofee hathihi addunya hasanatun waladarual-akhirati khayrun walaniAAma daru almuttaqeen

Yusuf Ali

To the righteous (when) it is said, "What is it that your Lord has revealed?" they say, "All that is good." To those who do good, there is good in this world, and the Home of the Hereafter is even better and excellent indeed is the Home of the righteous,-

16:30

جَنَّاتُ عَدْنٍ يَدْخُلُونَهَا تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ۖ لَهُمْ فِيهَا مَا يَشَاءُونَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَجْزِي اللَّهُ الْمُتَّقِينَ

Transliteration

Jannatu AAadnin yadkhuloonahatajree min tahtiha al-anharu lahum feehama yashaoona kathalika yajzee Allahualmuttaqeen

Yusuf Ali

Gardens of Eternity which they will enter: beneath them flow (pleasant) rivers: they will have therein all that they wish: thus doth Allah reward the righteous,-

16:31

الَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّاهُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ طَيِّبِينَ ۙ يَقُولُونَ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكُمُ ادْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Allatheena tatawaffahumu almala-ikatutayyibeena yaqooloona salamun AAalaykumu odkhulooaljannata bima kuntum taAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

(Namely) those whose lives the angels take in a state of purity, saying (to them), "Peace be on you; enter ye the Garden, because of (the good) which ye did (in the world)."

16:32

هَلْ يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَوْ يَأْتِيَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ فَعَلَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ وَمَا ظَلَمَهُمُ اللَّهُ وَلَٰكِنْ كَانُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

Transliteration

Hal yanthuroona illa anta/tiyahumu almala-ikatu aw ya/tiya amru rabbika kathalikafaAAala allatheena min qablihim wama thalamahumuAllahu walakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoon

Yusuf Ali

Do the (ungodly) wait until the angels come to them, or there comes the Command of thy Lord (for their doom)? So did those who went before them. But Allah wronged them not: nay, they wronged their own souls.

16:33

فَأَصَابَهُمْ سَيِّئَاتُ مَا عَمِلُوا وَحَاقَ بِهِمْ مَا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ

Transliteration

Faasabahum sayyi-atu maAAamiloo wahaqa bihim ma kanoo bihiyastahzi-oon

Yusuf Ali

But the evil results of their deeds overtook them, and that very (Wrath) at which they had scoffed hemmed them in.

16:34

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا لَوْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ مَا عَبَدْنَا مِنْ دُونِهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ نَحْنُ وَلَا آبَاؤُنَا وَلَا حَرَّمْنَا مِنْ دُونِهِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ فَعَلَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ فَهَلْ عَلَى الرُّسُلِ إِلَّا الْبَلَاغُ الْمُبِينُ

Transliteration

Waqala allatheena ashrakoo lawshaa Allahu ma AAabadna min doonihimin shay-in nahnu wala abaonawala harramna min doonihi min shay-in kathalikafaAAala allatheena min qablihim fahal AAala arrusuliilla albalaghu almubeen

Yusuf Ali

The worshippers of false gods say: "If Allah had so willed, we should not have worshipped aught but Him - neither we nor our fathers,- nor should we have prescribed prohibitions other than His." So did those who went before them. But what is the mission of messengers but to preach the Clear Message?

16:35

وَلَقَدْ بَعَثْنَا فِي كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ رَسُولًا أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاجْتَنِبُوا الطَّاغُوتَ ۖ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ هَدَى اللَّهُ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ حَقَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الضَّلَالَةُ ۚ فَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Walaqad baAAathna fee kulli ommatinrasoolan ani oAAbudoo Allaha wajtaniboo attaghootafaminhum man hada Allahu waminhum man haqqatAAalayhi addalalatu faseeroo fee al-ardifanthuroo kayfa kana AAaqibatualmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

For We assuredly sent amongst every People a messenger, (with the Command), "Serve Allah, and eschew Evil": of the People were some whom Allah guided, and some on whom error became inevitably (established). So travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who denied (the Truth).

16:36

إِنْ تَحْرِصْ عَلَىٰ هُدَاهُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي مَنْ يُضِلُّ ۖ وَمَا لَهُمْ مِنْ نَاصِرِينَ

Transliteration

In tahris AAala hudahumfa-inna Allaha la yahdee man yudillu wamalahum min nasireen

Yusuf Ali

If thou art anxious for their guidance, yet Allah guideth not such as He leaves to stray, and there is none to help them.

16:37

وَأَقْسَمُوا بِاللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَانِهِمْ ۙ لَا يَبْعَثُ اللَّهُ مَنْ يَمُوتُ ۚ بَلَىٰ وَعْدًا عَلَيْهِ حَقًّا وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Waaqsamoo billahi jahda aymanihimla yabAAathu Allahu man yamootu bala waAAdanAAalayhi haqqan walakinna akthara annasila yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

They swear their strongest oaths by Allah, that Allah will not raise up those who die: Nay, but it is a promise (binding) on Him in truth: but most among mankind realise it not.

16:38

لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ الَّذِي يَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا كَاذِبِينَ

Transliteration

Liyubayyina lahumu allatheeyakhtalifoona feehi waliyaAAlama allatheena kafarooannahum kanoo kathibeen

Yusuf Ali

(They must be raised up), in order that He may manifest to them the truth of that wherein they differ, and that the rejecters of Truth may realise that they had indeed (surrendered to) Falsehood.

16:39

إِنَّمَا قَوْلُنَا لِشَيْءٍ إِذَا أَرَدْنَاهُ أَنْ نَقُولَ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ

Transliteration

Innama qawluna lishay-inithaaradnahu an naqoola lahu kun fayakoon

Yusuf Ali

For to anything which We have willed, We but say the word, "Be", and it is.

16:40

وَالَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا فِي اللَّهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا ظُلِمُوا لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً ۖ وَلَأَجْرُ الْآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hajaroofee Allahi min baAAdi ma thulimoolanubawwi-annahum fee addunya hasanatanwalaajru al-akhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

To those who leave their homes in the cause of Allah, after suffering oppression,- We will assuredly give a goodly home in this world; but truly the reward of the Hereafter will be greater. If they only realised (this)!

16:41

الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

Transliteration

Allatheena sabaroo waAAalarabbihim yatawakkaloon

Yusuf Ali

(They are) those who persevere in patience, and put their trust on their Lord.

16:42

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِكَ إِلَّا رِجَالًا نُوحِي إِلَيْهِمْ ۚ فَاسْأَلُوا أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Wama arsalna min qablika illarijalan noohee ilayhim fas-aloo ahla aththikriin kuntum la taAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

And before thee also the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: if ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message.

16:43

بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالزُّبُرِ ۗ وَأَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الذِّكْرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Bilbayyinati wazzuburiwaanzalna ilayka aththikra litubayyina linnasima nuzzila ilayhim walaAAallahum yatafakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

(We sent them) with Clear Signs and Books of dark prophecies; and We have sent down unto thee (also) the Message; that thou mayest explain clearly to men what is sent for them, and that they may give thought.

16:44

أَفَأَمِنَ الَّذِينَ مَكَرُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ أَنْ يَخْسِفَ اللَّهُ بِهِمُ الْأَرْضَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

Transliteration

Afaamina allatheena makaroo assayyi-atian yakhsifa Allahu bihimu al-arda aw ya/tiyahumualAAathabu min haythu la yashAAuroon

Yusuf Ali

Do then those who devise evil (plots) feel secure that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them up, or that the Wrath will not seize them from directions they little perceive?-

16:45

أَوْ يَأْخُذَهُمْ فِي تَقَلُّبِهِمْ فَمَا هُمْ بِمُعْجِزِينَ

Transliteration

Aw ya/khuthahum fee taqallubihim famahum bimuAAjizeen

Yusuf Ali

Or that He may not call them to account in the midst of their goings to and fro, without a chance of their frustrating Him?-

16:46

أَوْ يَأْخُذَهُمْ عَلَىٰ تَخَوُّفٍ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَرَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Aw ya/khuthahum AAalatakhawwufin fa-inna rabbakum laraoofun raheem

Yusuf Ali

Or that He may not call them to account by a process of slow wastage - for thy Lord is indeed full of kindness and mercy.

16:47

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا إِلَىٰ مَا خَلَقَ اللَّهُ مِنْ شَيْءٍ يَتَفَيَّأُ ظِلَالُهُ عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَالشَّمَائِلِ سُجَّدًا لِلَّهِ وَهُمْ دَاخِرُونَ

Transliteration

Awa lam yaraw ila ma khalaqaAllahu min shay-in yatafayyao thilaluhuAAani alyameeni washshama-ili sujjadan lillahiwahum dakhiroon

Yusuf Ali

Do they not look at Allah's creation, (even) among (inanimate) things,- How their (very) shadows turn round, from the right and the left, prostrating themselves to Allah, and that in the humblest manner?

16:48

وَلِلَّهِ يَسْجُدُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ مِنْ دَابَّةٍ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ وَهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

Transliteration

Walillahi yasjudu ma fee assamawatiwama fee al-ardi min dabbatin walmala-ikatuwahum la yastakbiroon

Yusuf Ali

And to Allah doth obeisance all that is in the heavens and on earth, whether moving (living) creatures or the angels: for none are arrogant (before their Lord).

16:49

يَخَافُونَ رَبَّهُمْ مِنْ فَوْقِهِمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَ ۩

Transliteration

Yakhafoona rabbahum min fawqihimwayafAAaloona ma yu/maroon

Yusuf Ali

They all revere their Lord, high above them, and they do all that they are commanded.

16:50

۞ وَقَالَ اللَّهُ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا إِلَٰهَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ ۖ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ ۖ فَإِيَّايَ فَارْهَبُونِ

Transliteration

Waqala Allahu latattakhithoo ilahayni ithnayni innama huwailahun wahidun fa-iyyaya farhaboon

Yusuf Ali

Allah has said: "Take not (for worship) two gods: for He is just One Allah: then fear Me (and Me alone)."

16:51

وَلَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَهُ الدِّينُ وَاصِبًا ۚ أَفَغَيْرَ اللَّهِ تَتَّقُونَ

Transliteration

Walahu ma fee assamawatiwal-ardi walahu addeenu wasibanafaghayra Allahi tattaqoon

Yusuf Ali

To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and on earth, and to Him is duty due always: then will ye fear other than Allah?

16:52

وَمَا بِكُمْ مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ فَمِنَ اللَّهِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِذَا مَسَّكُمُ الضُّرُّ فَإِلَيْهِ تَجْأَرُونَ

Transliteration

Wama bikum min niAAmatin famina Allahithumma itha massakumu addurru fa-ilayhitaj-aroon

Yusuf Ali

And ye have no good thing but is from Allah: and moreover, when ye are touched by distress, unto Him ye cry with groans;

16:53

ثُمَّ إِذَا كَشَفَ الضُّرَّ عَنْكُمْ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِنْكُمْ بِرَبِّهِمْ يُشْرِكُونَ

Transliteration

Thumma itha kashafa addurraAAankum itha fareequn minkum birabbihim yushrikoon

Yusuf Ali

Yet, when He removes the distress from you, behold! some of you turn to other gods to join with their Lord-

16:54

لِيَكْفُرُوا بِمَا آتَيْنَاهُمْ ۚ فَتَمَتَّعُوا ۖ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Liyakfuroo bima ataynahumfatamattaAAoo fasawfa taAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

(As if) to show their ingratitude for the favours we have bestowed on them! then enjoy (your brief day): but soon will ye know (your folly)!

16:55

وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ نَصِيبًا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ ۗ تَاللَّهِ لَتُسْأَلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنْتُمْ تَفْتَرُونَ

Transliteration

WayajAAaloona lima layaAAlamoona naseeban mimma razaqnahum tallahilatus-alunna AAamma kuntum taftaroon

Yusuf Ali

And they (even) assign, to things they do not know, a portion out of that which We have bestowed for their sustenance! By Allah, ye shall certainly be called to account for your false inventions.

16:56

وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ الْبَنَاتِ سُبْحَانَهُ ۙ وَلَهُمْ مَا يَشْتَهُونَ

Transliteration

WayajAAaloona lillahi albanatisubhanahu walahum ma yashtahoon

Yusuf Ali

And they assign daughters for Allah! - Glory be to Him! - and for themselves (sons,- the issue) they desire!

16:57

وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُمْ بِالْأُنْثَىٰ ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ

Transliteration

Wa-itha bushshira ahaduhum bilonthathalla wajhuhu muswaddan wahuwa katheem

Yusuf Ali

When news is brought to one of them, of (the birth of) a female (child), his face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief!

16:58

يَتَوَارَىٰ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ مِنْ سُوءِ مَا بُشِّرَ بِهِ ۚ أَيُمْسِكُهُ عَلَىٰ هُونٍ أَمْ يَدُسُّهُ فِي التُّرَابِ ۗ أَلَا سَاءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ

Transliteration

Yatawara mina alqawmi minsoo-i ma bushshira bihi ayumsikuhu AAala hoonin amyadussuhu fee atturabi ala saa mayahkumoon

Yusuf Ali

With shame does he hide himself from his people, because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain it on (sufferance and) contempt, or bury it in the dust? Ah! what an evil (choice) they decide on?

16:59

لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ مَثَلُ السَّوْءِ ۖ وَلِلَّهِ الْمَثَلُ الْأَعْلَىٰ ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ

Transliteration

Lillatheena la yu/minoona bil-akhiratimathalu assaw-i walillahi almathalu al-aAAlawahuwa alAAazeezu alhakeem

Yusuf Ali

To those who believe not in the Hereafter, applies the similitude of evil: to Allah applies the highest similitude: for He is the Exalted in Power, full of Wisdom.

16:60

وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذُ اللَّهُ النَّاسَ بِظُلْمِهِمْ مَا تَرَكَ عَلَيْهَا مِنْ دَابَّةٍ وَلَٰكِنْ يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى ۖ فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ

Transliteration

Walaw yu-akhithu Allahuannasa bithulmihim ma tarakaAAalayha min dabbatin walakin yu-akhkhiruhumila ajalin musamman fa-itha jaa ajaluhum layasta/khiroona saAAatan wala yastaqdimoon

Yusuf Ali

If Allah were to punish men for their wrong-doing, He would not leave, on the (earth), a single living creature: but He gives them respite for a stated Term: When their Term expires, they would not be able to delay (the punishment) for a single hour, just as they would not be able to anticipate it (for a single hour).

16:61

وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ مَا يَكْرَهُونَ وَتَصِفُ أَلْسِنَتُهُمُ الْكَذِبَ أَنَّ لَهُمُ الْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ لَهُمُ النَّارَ وَأَنَّهُمْ مُفْرَطُونَ

Transliteration

WayajAAaloona lillahi mayakrahoona watasifu alsinatuhumu alkathiba annalahumu alhusna la jarama anna lahumu annarawaannahum mufratoon

Yusuf Ali

They attribute to Allah what they hate (for themselves), and their tongues assert the falsehood that all good things are for themselves: without doubt for them is the Fire, and they will be the first to be hastened on into it!

16:62

تَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ أُمَمٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ فَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ فَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُمُ الْيَوْمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Tallahi laqad arsalnaila omamin min qablika fazayyana lahumu ashshaytanuaAAmalahum fahuwa waliyyuhumu alyawma walahum AAathabunaleem

Yusuf Ali

By Allah, We (also) sent (Our messengers) to Peoples before thee; but Satan made, (to the wicked), their own acts seem alluring: He is also their patron today, but they shall have a most grievous penalty.

16:63

وَمَا أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ إِلَّا لِتُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ الَّذِي اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ ۙ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Transliteration

Wama anzalna AAalayka alkitabailla litubayyina lahumu allathee ikhtalafoo feehiwahudan warahmatan liqawmin yu/minoon

Yusuf Ali

And We sent down the Book to thee for the express purpose, that thou shouldst make clear to them those things in which they differ, and that it should be a guide and a mercy to those who believe.

16:64

وَاللَّهُ أَنْزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَحْيَا بِهِ الْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِقَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ

Transliteration

Wallahu anzala mina assama-imaan faahya bihi al-arda baAAdamawtiha inna fee thalika laayatan liqawminyasmaAAoon

Yusuf Ali

And Allah sends down rain from the skies, and gives therewith life to the earth after its death: verily in this is a Sign for those who listen.

16:65

وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِي الْأَنْعَامِ لَعِبْرَةً ۖ نُسْقِيكُمْ مِمَّا فِي بُطُونِهِ مِنْ بَيْنِ فَرْثٍ وَدَمٍ لَبَنًا خَالِصًا سَائِغًا لِلشَّارِبِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna lakum fee al-anAAamilaAAibratan nusqeekum mimma fee butoonihi min baynifarthin wadamin labanan khalisan sa-ighan lishsharibeen

Yusuf Ali

And verily in cattle (too) will ye find an instructive sign. From what is within their bodies between excretions and blood, We produce, for your drink, milk, pure and agreeable to those who drink it.

16:66

وَمِنْ ثَمَرَاتِ النَّخِيلِ وَالْأَعْنَابِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِنْهُ سَكَرًا وَرِزْقًا حَسَنًا ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ

Transliteration

Wamin thamarati annakheeli wal-aAAnabitattakhithoona minhu sakaran warizqan hasanan innafee thalika laayatan liqawmin yaAAqiloon

Yusuf Ali

And from the fruit of the date-palm and the vine, ye get out wholesome drink and food: behold, in this also is a sign for those who are wise.

16:67

وَأَوْحَىٰ رَبُّكَ إِلَى النَّحْلِ أَنِ اتَّخِذِي مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا وَمِنَ الشَّجَرِ وَمِمَّا يَعْرِشُونَ

Transliteration

Waawha rabbuka ila annahliani ittakhithee mina aljibali buyootan wamina ashshajariwamimma yaAArishoon

Yusuf Ali

And thy Lord taught the Bee to build its cells in hills, on trees, and in (men's) habitations;

16:68

ثُمَّ كُلِي مِنْ كُلِّ الثَّمَرَاتِ فَاسْلُكِي سُبُلَ رَبِّكِ ذُلُلًا ۚ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٌ مُخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَانُهُ فِيهِ شِفَاءٌ لِلنَّاسِ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَةً لِقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Thumma kulee min kulli aththamaratifaslukee subula rabbiki thululan yakhruju min butoonihasharabun mukhtalifun alwanuhu feehi shifaonlinnasi inna fee thalika laayatanliqawmin yatafakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

Then to eat of all the produce (of the earth), and find with skill the spacious paths of its Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for men: verily in this is a Sign for those who give thought.

16:69

وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ يَتَوَفَّاكُمْ ۚ وَمِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُرَدُّ إِلَىٰ أَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ لِكَيْ لَا يَعْلَمَ بَعْدَ عِلْمٍ شَيْئًا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration

Wallahu khalaqakum thummayatawaffakum waminkum man yuraddu ila arthalialAAumuri likay la yaAAlama baAAda AAilmin shay-an innaAllaha AAaleemun qadeer

Yusuf Ali

It is Allah who creates you and takes your souls at death; and of you there are some who are sent back to a feeble age, so that they know nothing after having known (much): for Allah is All-Knowing, All-Powerful.

16:70

وَاللَّهُ فَضَّلَ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فِي الرِّزْقِ ۚ فَمَا الَّذِينَ فُضِّلُوا بِرَادِّي رِزْقِهِمْ عَلَىٰ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَهُمْ فِيهِ سَوَاءٌ ۚ أَفَبِنِعْمَةِ اللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ

Transliteration

Wallahu faddala baAAdakumAAala baAAdin fee arrizqi fama allatheenafuddiloo biraddee rizqihim AAala mamalakat aymanuhum fahum feehi sawaon afabiniAAmatiAllahi yajhadoon

Yusuf Ali

Allah has bestowed His gifts of sustenance more freely on some of you than on others: those more favoured are not going to throw back their gifts to those whom their right hands possess, so as to be equal in that respect. Will they then deny the favours of Allah?

16:71

وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنْ أَزْوَاجِكُمْ بَنِينَ وَحَفَدَةً وَرَزَقَكُمْ مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ ۚ أَفَبِالْبَاطِلِ يُؤْمِنُونَ وَبِنِعْمَتِ اللَّهِ هُمْ يَكْفُرُونَ

Transliteration

Wallahu jaAAala lakum minanfusikum azwajan wajaAAala lakum min azwajikumbaneena wahafadatan warazaqakum mina attayyibatiafabilbatili yu/minoona wabiniAAmati Allahihum yakfuroon

Yusuf Ali

And Allah has made for you mates (and companions) of your own nature, and made for you, out of them, sons and daughters and grandchildren, and provided for you sustenance of the best: will they then believe in vain things, and be ungrateful for Allah's favours?-

16:72

وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ رِزْقًا مِنَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ شَيْئًا وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

Transliteration

WayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi mala yamliku lahum rizqan mina assamawatiwal-ardi shay-an wala yastateeAAoon

Yusuf Ali

And worship others than Allah,- such as have no power of providing them, for sustenance, with anything in heavens or earth, and cannot possibly have such power?

16:73

فَلَا تَضْرِبُوا لِلَّهِ الْأَمْثَالَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Fala tadriboo lillahial-amthala inna Allaha yaAAlamu waantum lataAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Invent not similitudes for Allah: for Allah knoweth, and ye know not.

16:74

۞ ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا عَبْدًا مَمْلُوكًا لَا يَقْدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَيْءٍ وَمَنْ رَزَقْنَاهُ مِنَّا رِزْقًا حَسَنًا فَهُوَ يُنْفِقُ مِنْهُ سِرًّا وَجَهْرًا ۖ هَلْ يَسْتَوُونَ ۚ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Daraba Allahu mathalan AAabdanmamlookan la yaqdiru AAala shay-in waman razaqnahuminna rizqan hasanan fahuwa yunfiqu minhu sirranwajahran hal yastawoona alhamdu lillahi balaktharuhum la yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Allah sets forth the Parable (of two men: one) a slave under the dominion of another; He has no power of any sort; and (the other) a man on whom We have bestowed goodly favours from Ourselves, and he spends thereof (freely), privately and publicly: are the two equal? (By no means;) praise be to Allah. But most of them understand not.

16:75

وَضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا رَجُلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا أَبْكَمُ لَا يَقْدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَيْءٍ وَهُوَ كَلٌّ عَلَىٰ مَوْلَاهُ أَيْنَمَا يُوَجِّهْهُ لَا يَأْتِ بِخَيْرٍ ۖ هَلْ يَسْتَوِي هُوَ وَمَنْ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ ۙ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

Transliteration

Wadaraba Allahu mathalanrajulayni ahaduhuma abkamu la yaqdiru AAalashay-in wahuwa kallun AAala mawlahu aynamayuwajjihhu la ya/ti bikhayrin hal yastawee huwa wamanya/muru bilAAadli wahuwa AAala siratinmustaqeem

Yusuf Ali

Allah sets forth (another) Parable of two men: one of them dumb, with no power of any sort; a wearisome burden is he to his master; whichever way be directs him, he brings no good: is such a man equal with one who commands Justice, and is on a Straight Way?

16:76

وَلِلَّهِ غَيْبُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ وَمَا أَمْرُ السَّاعَةِ إِلَّا كَلَمْحِ الْبَصَرِ أَوْ هُوَ أَقْرَبُ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration

Walillahi ghaybu assamawatiwal-ardi wama amru assaAAatiilla kalamhi albasari aw huwa aqrabu innaAllaha AAala kulli shay-in qadeer

Yusuf Ali

To Allah belongeth the Mystery of the heavens and the earth. And the Decision of the Hour (of Judgment) is as the twingkling of an eye, or even quicker: for Allah hath power over all things.

16:77

وَاللَّهُ أَخْرَجَكُمْ مِنْ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ شَيْئًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ ۙ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

Wallahu akhrajakum min butooniommahatikum la taAAlamoona shay-an wajaAAala lakumuassamAAa wal-absara wal-af-idatalaAAallakum tashkuroon

Yusuf Ali

It is He Who brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers when ye knew nothing; and He gave you hearing and sight and intelligence and affections: that ye may give thanks (to Allah).

16:78

أَلَمْ يَرَوْا إِلَى الطَّيْرِ مُسَخَّرَاتٍ فِي جَوِّ السَّمَاءِ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا اللَّهُ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Transliteration

Alam yaraw ila attayrimusakhkharatin fee jawwi assama-i mayumsikuhunna illa Allahu inna fee thalika laayatinliqawmin yu/minoon

Yusuf Ali

Do they not look at the birds, held poised in the midst of (the air and) the sky? Nothing holds them up but (the power of) Allah. Verily in this are signs for those who believe.

16:79

وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنْ بُيُوتِكُمْ سَكَنًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنْ جُلُودِ الْأَنْعَامِ بُيُوتًا تَسْتَخِفُّونَهَا يَوْمَ ظَعْنِكُمْ وَيَوْمَ إِقَامَتِكُمْ ۙ وَمِنْ أَصْوَافِهَا وَأَوْبَارِهَا وَأَشْعَارِهَا أَثَاثًا وَمَتَاعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍ

Transliteration

Wallahu jaAAala lakum minbuyootikum sakanan wajaAAala lakum min juloodi al-anAAamibuyootan tastakhiffoonaha yawma thaAAnikumwayawma iqamatikum wamin aswafihawaawbariha waashAAariha athathanwamataAAan ila heen

Yusuf Ali

It is Allah Who made your habitations homes of rest and quiet for you; and made for you, out of the skins of animals, (tents for) dwellings, which ye find so light (and handy) when ye travel and when ye stop (in your travels); and out of their wool, and their soft fibres (between wool and hair), and their hair, rich stuff and articles of convenience (to serve you) for a time.

16:80

وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِمَّا خَلَقَ ظِلَالًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ أَكْنَانًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ سَرَابِيلَ تَقِيكُمُ الْحَرَّ وَسَرَابِيلَ تَقِيكُمْ بَأْسَكُمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَهُ عَلَيْكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْلِمُونَ

Transliteration

Wallahu jaAAala lakum mimmakhalaqa thilalan wajaAAala lakum mina aljibaliaknanan wajaAAala lakum sarabeela taqeekumu alharrawasarabeela taqeekum ba/sakum kathalika yutimmuniAAmatahu AAalaykum laAAallakum tuslimoon

Yusuf Ali

It is Allah Who made out of the things He created, some things to give you shade; of the hills He made some for your shelter; He made you garments to protect you from heat, and coats of mail to protect you from your (mutual) violence. Thus does He complete His favours on you, that ye may bow to His Will (in Islam).

16:81

فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلَاغُ الْمُبِينُ

Transliteration

Fa-in tawallaw fa-innama AAalaykaalbalaghu almubeen

Yusuf Ali

But if they turn away, thy duty is only to preach the clear Message.

16:82

يَعْرِفُونَ نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ يُنْكِرُونَهَا وَأَكْثَرُهُمُ الْكَافِرُونَ

Transliteration

YaAArifoona niAAmata Allahi thummayunkiroonaha waaktharuhumu alkafiroon

Yusuf Ali

They recognise the favours of Allah; then they deny them; and most of them are (creatures) ungrateful.

16:83

وَيَوْمَ نَبْعَثُ مِنْ كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ شَهِيدًا ثُمَّ لَا يُؤْذَنُ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ

Transliteration

Wayawma nabAAathu min kulli ommatinshaheedan thumma la yu/thanu lillatheenakafaroo wala hum yustaAAtaboon

Yusuf Ali

One Day We shall raise from all Peoples a Witness: then will no excuse be accepted from Unbelievers, nor will they receive any favours.

16:84

وَإِذَا رَأَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا الْعَذَابَ فَلَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنْظَرُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-itha raa allatheena thalamooalAAathaba fala yukhaffafu AAanhum wala humyuntharoon

Yusuf Ali

When the wrong-doers (actually) see the Penalty, then will it in no way be mitigated, nor will they then receive respite.

16:85

وَإِذَا رَأَى الَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا شُرَكَاءَهُمْ قَالُوا رَبَّنَا هَٰؤُلَاءِ شُرَكَاؤُنَا الَّذِينَ كُنَّا نَدْعُو مِنْ دُونِكَ ۖ فَأَلْقَوْا إِلَيْهِمُ الْقَوْلَ إِنَّكُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-itha raa allatheenaashrakoo shurakaahum qaloo rabbana haola-ishurakaona allatheena kunna nadAAoomin doonika faalqaw ilayhimu alqawla innakum lakathiboon

Yusuf Ali

When those who gave partners to Allah will see their "partners", they will say: "Our Lord! these are our 'partners,' those whom we used to invoke besides Thee." But they will throw back their word at them (and say): "Indeed ye are liars!"

16:86

وَأَلْقَوْا إِلَى اللَّهِ يَوْمَئِذٍ السَّلَمَ ۖ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُمْ مَا كَانُوا يَفْتَرُونَ

Transliteration

Waalqaw ila Allahi yawma-ithinassalama wadalla AAanhum ma kanooyaftaroon

Yusuf Ali

That Day shall they (openly) show (their) submission to Allah; and all their inventions shall leave them in the lurch.

16:87

الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَصَدُّوا عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ زِدْنَاهُمْ عَذَابًا فَوْقَ الْعَذَابِ بِمَا كَانُوا يُفْسِدُونَ

Transliteration

Allatheena kafaroo wasaddooAAan sabeeli Allahi zidnahum AAathaban fawqaalAAathabi bima kanoo yufsidoon

Yusuf Ali

Those who reject Allah and hinder (men) from the Path of Allah - for them will We add Penalty to Penalty; for that they used to spread mischief.

16:88

وَيَوْمَ نَبْعَثُ فِي كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ شَهِيدًا عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ ۖ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ شَهِيدًا عَلَىٰ هَٰؤُلَاءِ ۚ وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ تِبْيَانًا لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً وَبُشْرَىٰ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ

Transliteration

Wayawma nabAAathu fee kulli ommatinshaheedan AAalayhim min anfusihim waji/na bika shaheedanAAala haola-i wanazzalna AAalaykaalkitaba tibyanan likulli shay-in wahudan warahmatanwabushra lilmuslimeen

Yusuf Ali

One day We shall raise from all Peoples a witness against them, from amongst themselves: and We shall bring thee as a witness against these (thy people): and We have sent down to thee the Book explaining all things, a Guide, a Mercy, and Glad Tidings to Muslims.

16:89

۞ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَيَنْهَىٰ عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ ۚ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Inna Allaha ya/muru bilAAadliwal-ihsani wa-eeta-i theealqurba wayanha AAani alfahsha-i walmunkariwalbaghyi yaAAithukum laAAallakum tathakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

Allah commands justice, the doing of good, and liberality to kith and kin, and He forbids all shameful deeds, and injustice and rebellion: He instructs you, that ye may receive admonition.

16:90

وَأَوْفُوا بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ إِذَا عَاهَدْتُمْ وَلَا تَنْقُضُوا الْأَيْمَانَ بَعْدَ تَوْكِيدِهَا وَقَدْ جَعَلْتُمُ اللَّهَ عَلَيْكُمْ كَفِيلًا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ

Transliteration

Waawfoo biAAahdi Allahi ithaAAahadtum wala tanqudoo al-aymanabaAAda tawkeediha waqad jaAAaltumu Allaha AAalaykumkafeelan inna Allaha yaAAlamu ma tafAAaloon

Yusuf Ali

Fulfil the Covenant of Allah when ye have entered into it, and break not your oaths after ye have confirmed them; indeed ye have made Allah your surety; for Allah knoweth all that ye do.

16:91

وَلَا تَكُونُوا كَالَّتِي نَقَضَتْ غَزْلَهَا مِنْ بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ أَنْكَاثًا تَتَّخِذُونَ أَيْمَانَكُمْ دَخَلًا بَيْنَكُمْ أَنْ تَكُونَ أُمَّةٌ هِيَ أَرْبَىٰ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ ۚ إِنَّمَا يَبْلُوكُمُ اللَّهُ بِهِ ۚ وَلَيُبَيِّنَنَّ لَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مَا كُنْتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ

Transliteration

Wala takoonoo kallatee naqadatghazlaha min baAAdi quwwatin ankathan tattakhithoonaaymanakum dakhalan baynakum an takoona ommatun hiya arbamin ommatin innama yablookumu Allahu bihiwalayubayyinanna lakum yawma alqiyamati ma kuntumfeehi takhtalifoon

Yusuf Ali

And be not like a woman who breaks into untwisted strands the yarn which she has spun, after it has become strong. Nor take your oaths to practise deception between yourselves, lest one party should be more numerous than another: for Allah will test you by this; and on the Day of Judgment He will certainly make clear to you (the truth of) that wherein ye disagree.

16:92

وَلَوْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَجَعَلَكُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَلَٰكِنْ يُضِلُّ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَلَتُسْأَلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Walaw shaa Allahu lajaAAalakumommatan wahidatan walakin yudillu man yashaowayahdee man yashao walatus-alunna AAamma kuntumtaAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

If Allah so willed, He could make you all one people: But He leaves straying whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases: but ye shall certainly be called to account for all your actions.

16:93

وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوا أَيْمَانَكُمْ دَخَلًا بَيْنَكُمْ فَتَزِلَّ قَدَمٌ بَعْدَ ثُبُوتِهَا وَتَذُوقُوا السُّوءَ بِمَا صَدَدْتُمْ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۖ وَلَكُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ

Transliteration

Wala tattakhithoo aymanakumdakhalan baynakum fatazilla qadamun baAAda thubootiha watathooqooassoo-a bima sadadtum AAan sabeeli Allahiwalakum AAathabun AAatheem

Yusuf Ali

And take not your oaths, to practise deception between yourselves, with the result that someone's foot may slip after it was firmly planted, and ye may have to taste the evil (consequences) of having hindered (men) from the Path of Allah, and a Mighty Wrath descend on you.

16:94

وَلَا تَشْتَرُوا بِعَهْدِ اللَّهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّمَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Wala tashtaroo biAAahdi Allahithamanan qaleelan innama AAinda Allahi huwa khayrunlakum in kuntum taAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Nor sell the covenant of Allah for a miserable price: for with Allah is (a prize) far better for you, if ye only knew.

16:95

مَا عِنْدَكُمْ يَنْفَدُ ۖ وَمَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ بَاقٍ ۗ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّ الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا أَجْرَهُمْ بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Ma AAindakum yanfadu wamaAAinda Allahi baqin walanajziyanna allatheenasabaroo ajrahum bi-ahsani ma kanooyaAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

What is with you must vanish: what is with Allah will endure. And We will certainly bestow, on those who patiently persevere, their reward according to the best of their actions.

16:96

مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِنْ ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنْثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُ حَيَاةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْرَهُمْ بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Man AAamila salihan min thakarinaw ontha wahuwa mu/minun falanuhyiyannahu hayatantayyibatan walanajziyannahum ajrahum bi-ahsani makanoo yaAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has Faith, verily, to him will We give a new Life, a life that is good and pure and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions.

16:97

فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ الْقُرْآنَ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

Transliteration

Fa-itha qara/ta alqur-ana fastaAAithbillahi mina ashshaytani arrajeem

Yusuf Ali

When thou dost read the Qur'an, seek Allah's protection from Satan the rejected one.

16:98

إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لَهُ سُلْطَانٌ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

Transliteration

Innahu laysa lahu sultanun AAalaallatheena amanoo waAAala rabbihimyatawakkaloon

Yusuf Ali

No authority has he over those who believe and put their trust in their Lord.

16:99

إِنَّمَا سُلْطَانُهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ يَتَوَلَّوْنَهُ وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِهِ مُشْرِكُونَ

Transliteration

Innama sultanuhu AAalaallatheena yatawallawnahu wallatheena humbihi mushrikoon

Yusuf Ali

His authority is over those only, who take him as patron and who join partners with Allah.

16:100

وَإِذَا بَدَّلْنَا آيَةً مَكَانَ آيَةٍ ۙ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُنَزِّلُ قَالُوا إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ مُفْتَرٍ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-itha baddalna ayatanmakana ayatin wallahu aAAlamu bimayunazzilu qaloo innama anta muftarin bal aktharuhumla yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

When We substitute one revelation for another,- and Allah knows best what He reveals (in stages),- they say, "Thou art but a forger": but most of them understand not.

16:101

قُلْ نَزَّلَهُ رُوحُ الْقُدُسِ مِنْ رَبِّكَ بِالْحَقِّ لِيُثَبِّتَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَهُدًى وَبُشْرَىٰ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ

Transliteration

Qul nazzalahu roohu alqudusi minrabbika bilhaqqi liyuthabbita allatheena amanoowahudan wabushra lilmuslimeen

Yusuf Ali

Say, the Holy Spirit has brought the revelation from thy Lord in Truth, in order to strengthen those who believe, and as a Guide and Glad Tidings to Muslims.

16:102

وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّمَا يُعَلِّمُهُ بَشَرٌ ۗ لِسَانُ الَّذِي يُلْحِدُونَ إِلَيْهِ أَعْجَمِيٌّ وَهَٰذَا لِسَانٌ عَرَبِيٌّ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Walaqad naAAlamu annahum yaqooloona innamayuAAallimuhu basharun lisanu allathee yulhidoonailayhi aAAjamiyyun wahatha lisanun AAarabiyyunmubeen

Yusuf Ali

We know indeed that they say, "It is a man that teaches him." The tongue of him they wickedly point to is notably foreign, while this is Arabic, pure and clear.

16:103

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَا يَهْدِيهِمُ اللَّهُ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Inna allatheena la yu/minoonabi-ayati Allahi la yahdeehimu Allahuwalahum AAathabun aleem

Yusuf Ali

Those who believe not in the Signs of Allah,- Allah will not guide them, and theirs will be a grievous Penalty.

16:104

إِنَّمَا يَفْتَرِي الْكَذِبَ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ ۖ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَاذِبُونَ

Transliteration

Innama yaftaree alkathibaallatheena la yu/minoona bi-ayati Allahiwaola-ika humu alkathiboon

Yusuf Ali

It is those who believe not in the Signs of Allah, that forge falsehood: it is they who lie!

16:105

مَنْ كَفَرَ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ إِيمَانِهِ إِلَّا مَنْ أُكْرِهَ وَقَلْبُهُ مُطْمَئِنٌّ بِالْإِيمَانِ وَلَٰكِنْ مَنْ شَرَحَ بِالْكُفْرِ صَدْرًا فَعَلَيْهِمْ غَضَبٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ

Transliteration

Man kafara billahi minbaAAdi eemanihi illa man okriha waqalbuhu mutma-innunbil-eemani walakin man sharaha bilkufrisadran faAAalayhim ghadabun mina Allahiwalahum AAathabun AAatheem

Yusuf Ali

Any one who, after accepting faith in Allah, utters Unbelief,- except under compulsion, his heart remaining firm in Faith - but such as open their breast to Unbelief, on them is Wrath from Allah, and theirs will be a dreadful Penalty.

16:106

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ اسْتَحَبُّوا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَى الْآخِرَةِ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الْكَافِرِينَ

Transliteration

Thalika bi-annahumu istahabbooalhayata addunya AAala al-akhiratiwaanna Allaha la yahdee alqawma alkafireen

Yusuf Ali

This because they love the life of this world better than the Hereafter: and Allah will not guide those who reject Faith.

16:107

أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ طَبَعَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَسَمْعِهِمْ وَأَبْصَارِهِمْ ۖ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْغَافِلُونَ

Transliteration

Ola-ika allatheena tabaAAaAllahu AAala quloobihim wasamAAihim waabsarihimwaola-ika humu alghafiloon

Yusuf Ali

Those are they whose hearts, ears, and eyes Allah has sealed up, and they take no heed.

16:108

لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ

Transliteration

La jarama annahum fee al-akhiratihumu alkhasiroon

Yusuf Ali

Without doubt, in the Hereafter they will perish.

16:109

ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لِلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا فُتِنُوا ثُمَّ جَاهَدُوا وَصَبَرُوا إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنْ بَعْدِهَا لَغَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Thumma inna rabbaka lillatheena hajaroomin baAAdi ma futinoo thumma jahadoo wasabarooinna rabbaka min baAAdiha laghafoorun raheem

Yusuf Ali

But verily thy Lord,- to those who leave their homes after trials and persecutions,- and who thereafter strive and fight for the faith and patiently persevere,- Thy Lord, after all this is oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

16:110

۞ يَوْمَ تَأْتِي كُلُّ نَفْسٍ تُجَادِلُ عَنْ نَفْسِهَا وَتُوَفَّىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَا عَمِلَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Yawma ta/tee kullu nafsin tujadiluAAan nafsiha watuwaffa kullu nafsin maAAamilat wahum la yuthlamoon

Yusuf Ali

One Day every soul will come up struggling for itself, and every soul will be recompensed (fully) for all its actions, and none will be unjustly dealt with.

16:111

وَضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا قَرْيَةً كَانَتْ آمِنَةً مُطْمَئِنَّةً يَأْتِيهَا رِزْقُهَا رَغَدًا مِنْ كُلِّ مَكَانٍ فَكَفَرَتْ بِأَنْعُمِ اللَّهِ فَأَذَاقَهَا اللَّهُ لِبَاسَ الْجُوعِ وَالْخَوْفِ بِمَا كَانُوا يَصْنَعُونَ

Transliteration

Wadaraba Allahu mathalanqaryatan kanat aminatan mutma-innatanya/teeha rizquha raghadan min kulli makaninfakafarat bi-anAAumi Allahi faathaqaha Allahulibasa aljooAAi walkhawfi bima kanooyasnaAAoon

Yusuf Ali

Allah sets forth a Parable: a city enjoying security and quiet, abundantly supplied with sustenance from every place: Yet was it ungrateful for the favours of Allah: so Allah made it taste of hunger and terror (in extremes) (closing in on it) like a garment (from every side), because of the (evil) which (its people) wrought.

16:112

وَلَقَدْ جَاءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مِنْهُمْ فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمُ الْعَذَابُ وَهُمْ ظَالِمُونَ

Transliteration

Walaqad jaahum rasoolun minhum fakaththaboohufaakhathahumu alAAathabu wahum thalimoon

Yusuf Ali

And there came to them a Messenger from among themselves, but they falsely rejected him; so the Wrath seized them even in the midst of their iniquities.

16:113

فَكُلُوا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللَّهُ حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا وَاشْكُرُوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ

Transliteration

Fakuloo mimma razaqakumu Allahuhalalan tayyiban washkuroo niAAmataAllahi in kuntum iyyahu taAAbudoon

Yusuf Ali

So eat of the sustenance which Allah has provided for you, lawful and good; and be grateful for the favours of Allah, if it is He Whom ye serve.

16:114

إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَيْتَةَ وَالدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ الْخِنْزِيرِ وَمَا أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ اللَّهِ بِهِ ۖ فَمَنِ اضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلَا عَادٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Innama harrama AAalaykumualmaytata waddama walahma alkhinzeeri wamaohilla lighayri Allahi bihi famani idturra ghayra baghinwala AAadin fa-inna Allaha ghafoorun raheem

Yusuf Ali

He has only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and any (food) over which the name of other than Allah has been invoked. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

16:115

وَلَا تَقُولُوا لِمَا تَصِفُ أَلْسِنَتُكُمُ الْكَذِبَ هَٰذَا حَلَالٌ وَهَٰذَا حَرَامٌ لِتَفْتَرُوا عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ لَا يُفْلِحُونَ

Transliteration

Wala taqooloo lima tasifualsinatukumu alkathiba hatha halalunwahatha haramun litaftaroo AAala Allahialkathiba inna allatheena yaftaroona AAalaAllahi alkathiba la yuflihoon

Yusuf Ali

But say not - for any false thing that your tongues may put forth,- "This is lawful, and this is forbidden," so as to ascribe false things to Allah. For those who ascribe false things to Allah, will never prosper.

16:116

مَتَاعٌ قَلِيلٌ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

MataAAun qaleelun walahum AAathabunaleem

Yusuf Ali

(In such falsehood) is but a paltry profit; but they will have a most grievous Penalty.

16:117

وَعَلَى الَّذِينَ هَادُوا حَرَّمْنَا مَا قَصَصْنَا عَلَيْكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ ۖ وَمَا ظَلَمْنَاهُمْ وَلَٰكِنْ كَانُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

Transliteration

WaAAala allatheena hadooharramna ma qasasnaAAalayka min qablu wama thalamnahumwalakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoon

Yusuf Ali

To the Jews We prohibited such things as We have mentioned to thee before: We did them no wrong, but they were used to doing wrong to themselves.

16:118

ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لِلَّذِينَ عَمِلُوا السُّوءَ بِجَهَالَةٍ ثُمَّ تَابُوا مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُوا إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنْ بَعْدِهَا لَغَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Thumma inna rabbaka lillatheenaAAamiloo assoo-a bijahalatin thumma taboomin baAAdi thalika waaslahoo inna rabbakamin baAAdiha laghafoorun raheem

Yusuf Ali

But verily thy Lord,- to those who do wrong in ignorance, but who thereafter repent and make amends,- thy Lord, after all this, is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

16:119

إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً قَانِتًا لِلَّهِ حَنِيفًا وَلَمْ يَكُ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

Transliteration

Inna ibraheema kana ommatan qanitanlillahi haneefan walam yaku mina almushrikeen

Yusuf Ali

Abraham was indeed a model, devoutly obedient to Allah, (and) true in Faith, and he joined not gods with Allah:

16:120

شَاكِرًا لِأَنْعُمِهِ ۚ اجْتَبَاهُ وَهَدَاهُ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

Transliteration

Shakiran li-anAAumihi ijtabahuwahadahu ila siratin mustaqeem

Yusuf Ali

He showed his gratitude for the favours of Allah, who chose him, and guided him to a Straight Way.

16:121

وَآتَيْنَاهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً ۖ وَإِنَّهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ

Transliteration

Waataynahu fee addunyahasanatan wa-innahu fee al-akhirati lamina assaliheen

Yusuf Ali

And We gave him Good in this world, and he will be, in the Hereafter, in the ranks of the Righteous.

16:122

ثُمَّ أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ أَنِ اتَّبِعْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا ۖ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

Transliteration

Thumma awhayna ilayka aniittabiAA millata ibraheema haneefan wama kanamina almushrikeen

Yusuf Ali

So We have taught thee the inspired (Message), "Follow the ways of Abraham the True in Faith, and he joined not gods with Allah."

16:123

إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ السَّبْتُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ ۚ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَيَحْكُمُ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِيمَا كَانُوا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ

Transliteration

Innama juAAila assabtu AAalaallatheena ikhtalafoo feehi wa-inna rabbaka layahkumubaynahum yawma alqiyamati feema kanoo feehiyakhtalifoon

Yusuf Ali

The Sabbath was only made (strict) for those who disagreed (as to its observance); But Allah will judge between them on the Day of Judgment, as to their differences.

16:124

ادْعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ ۖ وَجَادِلْهُمْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ ۖ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ

Transliteration

OdAAu ila sabeeli rabbika bilhikmatiwalmawAAithati alhasanati wajadilhumbillatee hiya ahsanu inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamubiman dalla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bilmuhtadeen

Yusuf Ali

Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.

16:125

وَإِنْ عَاقَبْتُمْ فَعَاقِبُوا بِمِثْلِ مَا عُوقِبْتُمْ بِهِ ۖ وَلَئِنْ صَبَرْتُمْ لَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لِلصَّابِرِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-in AAaqabtum faAAaqiboobimithli ma AAooqibtum bihi wala-in sabartum lahuwakhayrun lissabireen

Yusuf Ali

And if ye do catch them out, catch them out no worse than they catch you out: But if ye show patience, that is indeed the best (course) for those who are patient.

16:126

وَاصْبِرْ وَمَا صَبْرُكَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ ۚ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا تَكُ فِي ضَيْقٍ مِمَّا يَمْكُرُونَ

Transliteration

Wasbir wama sabrukailla billahi wala tahzanAAalayhim wala taku fee dayqin mimmayamkuroon

Yusuf Ali

And do thou be patient, for thy patience is but from Allah; nor grieve over them: and distress not thyself because of their plots.

16:127

إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مُحْسِنُونَ

Transliteration

Inna Allaha maAAa allatheenaittaqaw wallatheena hum muhsinoon

Yusuf Ali

For Allah is with those who restrain themselves, and those who do good.

16:128
